The saga between the Indianapolis Colts and running back Jonathan Taylor continues. After owner Jim Irsay made some questionable comments about Taylor and the running back market, things started to spiral out of control. On top of that, Taylor is still recovering from an ankle injury. He was absent from training camp again this week.
Indianapolis Colts Jonathan Taylor Absent From Training Camp
This absence comes with a little less drama.
“Jonathan Taylor returned to Indianapolis to continue his rehab, however he had a personal matter arise,” the team said in a statement obtained by NFL Network Insider Mike Garafolo. “He is not currently with the team and his absence is excused.”
While it is somewhat good news that it is excused, the elephant in the room is still there. Taylor is clearly not happy with the team and there is some question whether he will ever play a down for the team again. The injury complicates things as he might not be ready to play regardless of how happy he is with his contract. This is not the type of situation you want as a rebuilding team.
Focus On The Good
If you are a Colts fan, Anthony Richardson provides a great distraction from this situation. Taylor is a great running back but probably is not a part of the long-term future. The Colts took Richardson with the idea that he would be their franchise quarterback. It is still very early but he has already won the starting job and is impressing in camp. Indianapolis will be able to find another running back. It is much harder to nail the quarterback.
It will be interesting to see how the saga between the Indianapolis Colts and Jonathan Taylor ends. It doesn’t look good but sometimes these types of disputes just need time to cool down.
