The Indianapolis Colts have a defensive coordinator

The Indianapolis Colts will look mostly new for the 2023 season. The team fired Frank Reich midseason (who recently was hired as the Carolina Panthers’ head coach) and opted to hire Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their next head coach. Steichen and the Colts recently made a decision about who would be the defensive coordinator next season.

According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, the Colts have decided to retain Gus Bradley as the defensive coordinator.

Gus Bradley will remain with the #Colts as defensive coordinator for new head coach Shane Steichen, per sources. This has been the expectation league wide as teams filled jobs. Colts keep continuity on the defensive side of the ball.

Bradley will offer the new Colts staff years of top coaching experience. He had his first defensive coordinator job in the NFL in 2009. Bradley was the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach from 2013-16. He has since been a defensive coordinator. Bradley started with the Colts in 2022.

The Colts’ defense hovered near the middle to back of the NFL last season under Bradley. They finished giving up the 16th most yards in the league in 2022. They also gave up the 30th most points. However, the Colts’ anemic offense didn’t help the defense cause.
