The Indianapolis Colts have a lot riding on Anthony Richardson. After taking him fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, the team is hoping he is the quarterback of the future. Training camp is an interesting time in the NFL. It tells a story but not the whole story. Obviously, every player is trying not to get hurt while also getting good reps in. What teams want to see is proof of concept in camp. Richardson is apparently showcasing his skills and turning heads.
Indianapolis Colts Anthony Richardson Turning Heads
Richardson apparently had a great weekend of practice. New head coach Shane Steichen raved about his performance in practice to James Boyd of The Athletic.
“I thought he had a heck of a day (Sunday). He was really solid, made some big-time throws. Obviously, the two-minute drive, threw a nice touchdown right there in the end zone and then the two-point play that he ran in. It was pretty good to see.”
“Shoot, he made a heck of a throw. It was one-on-one backside, and we had another combination over there, and he snapped back and threw that one-on-one. It was a great throw and a great catch.”
Richardson seems to be making big-time throws and is on his way to winning the starting job. Gardner Minshew is on the roster but it seems like the young quarterback is taking over.
Expectations For Richardson
Steichen talked about Richardson’s running ability when describing his performance. This is a reason to be bullish on the Colts’ offense this year. A quarterback who can scramble completely changes the offense. Steichen also found huge success with Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia and Richardson is a similar player albeit bigger. Even if Richardson struggles in the passing game, his athletic ability will cover up a lot of mistakes. The Colts probably are not going to make any kind of playoff run but they still could be a tough out.
If you are an Indianapolis Colts fan, you have to be happy about the news about Anthony Richardson coming out of camp. Again, while it doesn’t tell the whole story, it does show that he seems to be acclimating well.
