“In a Contract Year”: New York Jets RB Breece Hall Was Almost Traded To the Kansas City Chiefs (Report)

The New York Jets made a major splash during the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday. New York could have potentially traded more players away like running back Breece Hall and edge rusher Jermaine Johnson.

The Bengals lost 39-38, giving the Jets their first win of the season.

Hall is in the final year of his contract and there is a chance that the Jets may not be to re-sign him once the season ends. He may not want to return to play for this franchise after expressing he wanted to be traded after Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams were dealt. There was one NFL team that was interesting in trading for the Jets running back.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a 5-4 record this season and it is not a secret that the running game has been a weakness for them. Well, the Jets have a 1-7 record, and they wanted to sell off as many pieces as possible. Joel Corry of CBS Sports said about New York and Kansas City almost making a trade with each other,

“Trade talks between the Chiefs and Jets apparently broke down over draft capital. The Jets reportedly wanted a third-round pick while the Chiefs were willing to part with a fourth-round pick.

Hall, who is in a contract year, was in favor of a change in scenery after Gardner and Williams were dealt, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The 2022 second-round pick wasn’t a contract extension candidate during the offseason because of Glenn’s plan to go with a running back-by-committee approach, which was derailed by Braelon Allen‘s season-ending knee injury.”

This season with New York, he rushed for 581 yards on 117 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 5.0 yards per carry. Hall has also caught 21 passes for 178 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per reception. It would have been a game-changer for the Chiefs. However, it is good on the Jets part that they didn’t budge in the trade talks as well.
