The Cleveland Browns broke a historic losing streak on this Sunday. Rookie QB Shedeur Sanders won his proper NFL debut against the Raiders. Seems like the victory ended nearly three decades of quarterback misery for the franchise.

But head coach Kevin Stefanski refused to commit to the rookie moving forward. His response after the game raised more questions than answers about the team’s quarterback plans.
Stefanski Defers QB Decision After Shedeur Sanders’ Winning Debut
Sanders threw for 209 yards and one touchdown in Cleveland’s 24-10 victory over the Raiders. The rookie completed 11 of 20 passing attempts with one interception. His outing helped end a traumatic streak that stretched back to 2018.
Cleveland hadn’t seen a rookie quarterback win his first start in 30 years. Sanders became the first since Eric Zeier to accomplish the significant milestone in 1995. The drought spanned 17 consecutive rookie quarterbacks who lost their debut starts.
But Stefanski wasn’t ready to hand over the keys permanently. When reporters asked if Sanders would remain the starter, the coach dodged the question.
“I’m not going to get into that,” he said in the post-game media availability. “Proud of him and proud of this offense. There are a ton of things to learn from, but I’m just going to worry about today.”
He added, “I’m going to take my time and do what’s best for the football team.”

Stefanski said before the game that Dillon Gabriel would regain the starting job once he cleared concussion protocol. Gabriel was sidelined after taking a hard hit against Baltimore last week, but he was cleared on Monday.
Despite that, Stefanski named Sanders the Week 13 starter for the 49ers game. The decision came after he reviewed the film and met with his staff.
Shedeur Sanders’ Bold Message to Critics After Breaking Browns Streak
Sanders didn’t stay quiet following his winning debut. The former Colorado standout addressed doubters who questioned his capability to succeed at the professional level.
“Everybody starts in different places, but it’s no excuse. You gotta go out there and perform,” Sanders said during his postgame presser. “There’s no choice. There’s no question. Nobody cares that this was one week of prep. Who cares? A lot of people wanna see me fail, and it ain’t gonna happen.”
The Colorado product faced heavy skepticism entering the league. Some analysts claimed he was overhyped because of his Hall of Fame father. Others said his college success wouldn’t translate to the NFL. Sanders used Sunday’s performance to silence the noise.
“That was truly exciting,” Sanders told reporters while reflecting on the moment. Despite the pressure of starting on short notice, he remained calm throughout the game. “I didn’t feel anything. That’s why I was just excited,” he explained about his nerves.
“YEAHHHH. BIG DUBS.”

Sanders credited his offensive line for helping him settle into the role quickly. “I love how the offensive line embraced me when I came in that role, and they understood I’m nothing but business,” he said. The unit allowed just one sack all game. That protection gave Sanders time to make plays downfield.
Looking back at the entire experience, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “It’s amazing. I’m just truly thankful that everything happened,” he said with a smile.
The Browns now sit at 3-8 with virtually nothing to play for except developing their young talent. The best part? Sanders has got another shot to prove he is better than Gabriel. Not surprisingly, the 49ers game is going to be a fate-deciding factor for him.
