Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores will look to help the Vikings have another successful year on the defensive side of the football. Flores has been Minnesota’s defensive coordinator since the 2023 season.

He has been a head coach once before in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins from 2019-2021. Is there a chance that the Vikings current defensive coordinator could be a head coach again in the NFL? Some people think that could happen after the 2025 NFL season.
ESPN Analyst Thinks That Minnesota Vikings Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores Could Become a Head Coach Next Coaching Cycle

Before the 2025 NFL season begins, it will be fun to speculate which assistant coaches could be in line to become NFL head coaches during the next head coaching cycle. Well, some believe that Flores deserves another chance to be a head coach in the NFL.
Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com thinks that Flores is one of the key assistant coaches across the league to potentially watch for during the 2026 head coaching cycle. Cronin said,
“If the Vikings’ defense performs as well as it did in 2024 (tied for first in turnovers, second in EPA/play, fifth in points allowed), expect Flores’ name to once again circulate in the head coaching cycle.
Flores interviewed for three jobs last year — Bears, Jets, Jaguars — and has been a head coach before with Dolphins. Whether teams have the desire to hire Flores with his ongoing lawsuit against the NFL and the public fallout from his relationship with Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (especially teams that have young QBs or are looking to draft one) remains to be seen.”
It would be interesting to see which NFL teams who could potentially have an opening after the 2025 NFL season. It is hard to tell which team would have an opening by the time the end of the 2025 NFL season rolls around, but one team who may fire the head coach at the end of the season could be the Cincinnati Bengals (Zac Taylor).
There are some other jobs that could open as well. The Dolphins could also fire Mike McDaniel and the San Francisco 49ers could also move on from Kyle Shanahan as well. Flores is a defensive minded guy, and he will get interviews next cycle, but teams may want to opt for the offensive minded assistant coaches also.
