The Michigan Wolverines finished with a 7-5 record during the regular season in 2024, but they once again defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes for the fourth straight season. Michigan and Ohio State have won the last two national titles in college football from the BIG10 Conference.

The Wolverines and the Buckeyes will add another chapter into its historic rivalry later in the 2025 college football season. Michigan defensive end Derrick Moore spoke to the media during Thursday’s BIG10 media day. The Wolverines are looking to have a better 2025 season. Also, who runs the BIG10 Conference, Michigan or Ohio State?
Michigan Wolverines Defensive End Derrick Moore Has Harsh Take About the Rivalry With the Ohio State Buckeyes

When Michigan won the national title two seasons ago, they went undefeated and won the BIG10 Conference crown. The Wolverines have won more BIG10 titles recently than the Buckeyes have. When Ohio State won it all last season, they had a 10-2 overall record and did not reach the BIG10 title game. The Oregon Ducks defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions in that matchup.
The playoff expansion helped the Buckeyes win the national title. However, Moore had some harsh words about the Michigan and Ohio State rivalry. He said about the Buckeyes winning the national title last year,
“First, I’d like to congratulate them on the win. But you know it’s not a real win if y’all [Ohio State] ain’t beat us. If the playoff expansion wasn’t around, they wouldn’t have won the national championship. So we pretty much look at it like, y’all had a nice, little, easy run. But we helped y’all along the way. We pretty much helped y’all build back up. But after that, they dominated everybody that came in front of them, so, I’ve got to give all the credit to them.”
Last year was the first season where it was a 12-team postseason field. When Michigan won it all, it was only a four-team field. It would have been interesting to see who would have made the postseason if it was only four teams. The four teams probably would have been Oregon, the Indiana Hoosiers, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the Georgia Bulldogs.
Michigan and Ohio State could very well be playoff teams once again from the BIG10 Conference in 2025. The Wolverines have won more BIG10 titles than the Buckeyes have recently, but because Ohio State won it all in 2024, the BIG10 technically runs through them no matter what Moore has to say about this heated historic rivalry.
