The Green Bay Packers finished with an 11-6 record during the 2024 NFL season. Green Bay was the seventh seed in the NFC last year and they were also in third place in the NFC North.

The Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Wild Card game. Green Bay was a good team in 2024, but they were not elite. Can the Packers be an elite NFL team in 2025 or could they be a team that takes a massive step backwards? One NFL analyst thinks that Green Bay could be an elite team during the 2025 NFL season.

NFL Analyst Has Green Bay Packers Ranked #5 In Power Rankings Before 2025 Season

Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports ranked his NFL teams before the 2025 NFL season begins. He has Green Bay ranked number five in his NFL power rankings. This is a surprise because the Packers did not play like a Top 5 team toward the end of the 2024 NFL season. However, Vacchiano thinks highly of Green Bay entering the 2025 NFL season. He said about the Packers,

“The Packers went 11-7 last year and, outside of a meaningless season finale against the Bears, they only lost to the Eagles, Lions and Vikings — twice each to the three best teams in the NFC. What would get them over the top, considering they already have a top-five offense and defense? It’s really up to quarterback Jordan Love, who has been mostly terrific, but has still thrown 27 interceptions (including five in three playoff games) in the last three seasons. Drafting receiver Matthew Golden in the first round could make life easier for Love, but if he takes the next step, the Packers will, too.”

Love during the 2024 season completed 63.1% of his passes for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.  He also rushed for 83 yards on 25 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 3.3 yards per carry. If he can stay healthy and not miss time in 2025, Green Bay could be a playoff team once again. The issue with the Packers won’t be the offense.

It will be the defensive side of the football and trying to generate a pass rush. The Packers are not better than the Detroit Lions or the Minnesota Vikings. Green Bay might only be better than the Chicago Bears. Also, they finished with a 1-5 record in NFC North play in 2024. The offense could be a very good unit, but the defense could let down this team once again like it has in the past for this franchise.
