Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce showed major signs of declining during the 2024 NFL season and also in the playoffs. Kelce did not look the same in the Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Many people thought he was going to retire after the season and spend more time with Taylor Swift. However, the Chiefs star tight end decided to comeback for another NFL season and will turn 36 on October 5. There is a chance that this could be his last season in the NFL. Kelce spoke with reporters about what transpired during the 2024 season.
Kansas City Chiefs Travis Kelce Says Harsh Words About Himself To Reporters About How the 2024 NFL Season Went

Tess DeMeyer of The Athletic wrote about Kelce and what he had to say about his 2024 season during 2025 mandatory minicamp. Kansas City’s star tight end said about his down year last season,
“Last year, I think I failed, especially in that last game, in being a leader and being the one that could step up and make plays. I’m just setting the bar even higher for myself this year than I had in the past.”
Kelce during the 2024 NFL season caught 97 passes for 823 yards receiving and three touchdowns, along with averaging 8.5 yards per reception. He was targeted 133 times and rushed for one yard on one carry. Kelce was 12th in the NFL in receptions during the 2024 season, but he ranked 39th in NFL receiving yards during the 2024 NFL season as well.
It is not a secret that he will be a future hall of fame player, but it is also not a secret that he was showing signs of slowing down in 2024. There is a chance that Kelce’s production may continue to drop in 2025, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes will need to rely on the wide receivers more often.
Despite what people think about him slowing down, Kelce took the time this offseason to improve and also lost weight. He also said to reporters,
“This year, I got some time to really focus on some form running and some things early on in the offseason that I just didn’t have time for last year. Certainly I’m feeling good, and I think it will pay off.”
We will see what happens at the start of the 2025 NFL season. Mahomes also said to the media,
“I expect Travis to be Travis, man. And obviously the play on the field is going to be high. He’s going to go out there with the mentality that we’re trying to win the Super Bowl this year.”
The Chiefs finished with a 15-2 record in 2024, but there is a chance that they could take a step back in 2025. This could be the final season where Kelce is catching passes from Mahomes.
