If you are on TikTok and follow sports, there is a fairly good chance you know who JamesDroz556 is. James, who has special needs, has been commenting on the outcome of sports games, mainly football and basketball, since he made his first video last October. Since then, James has developed a following that recently surpassed the one million follower mark on TikTok. James has mastered the blend of sarcasm and charisma to have 25 million likes since then.

As the landscape of sports media is changing from the traditional Sunday Columns to now getting out information as quickly as possible untraditional analysis have become more regular. Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram have been used by sports journalists for years now but TikTok has become a real player in the sports media world now for the ability to create short formed content to keep people informed.

The Start of JamesDroz556 & “What Happened?”

In the world of modern day sports media, James is undoubtedly a favorite or many young sports fans. James first went viral in January 2022 when he made a video about the Minnesota Viking, using his prominent catchphrase “What Happened?”

James started out in his early videos duetting Tiktoker @WeHoopin who was a diehard Ravens fan on the app. James would duet his videos supplying his own commentary, which was far less biased than what the original videos were providing.

James then went viral again later that month when he surpassed the one million view mark on a video for the first time when the Steelers would lose to James’ favorite team in the playoffs, the Kansas City Chiefs.  This was the first video “JamesDroz556” had posted that had over one million views. Since then, James has developed a cult following of college football and NFL fans alike on TikTok.

On December 27th, James posted a video on his TikTok announcing that he will be at the Chiefs Broncos game on January 1st at Arrowhead. James was surprised by Juju Smith-Schuster, Chiefs receiver and social media star, about his access to the field before the game along with the tickets. This will be James’ first time at Arrowhead watching the Chiefs.

James has brightened up the lives of so many sports fans but on the other side he can rip your favorite team to shreds in just a single one minute video. He has lived in the shadows of fearful fans of losing teams, just only hoping that James does not roast them.  When you see the “He’s Coming” meme then you know he’s going to make a video about your favorite team.

“JamesDroz556” had his most popular video was this past October when he asked this simple question.

“USC, what happened?” after their one point loss to the University of Utah. This was the by far the best video James made as it got almost five million views but more importantly it cemented James as a meme that people on the internet now use when opposing teams would lose.

James, a native of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, was a part of the football team at his high school. Sometime due to his special needs, he could not always play on the field. However, he helped their coach with the team. James did have the chance to suit up in his senior season and took full advantage.

James was also recently invited to the University of Oklahoma for their game against Oklahoma State.

“Anthony Rayburn, who follows JamesDroz556 on TikTok and has become one of his dedicated fans, proposed for James to visit Norman to watch the game. Rayburn said that he uses TikTok a lot and since he loves sports, he is one of James’ biggest fans. He added that when he found out that James was from Bartlesville, he decided to invite the TikToker to Normal since he also likes OU and OSU.”

After the University of Oklahoma defeated 28-13, James would go onto creating another viral masterpiece, this time with the entire Oklahoma football team taking part in the video.

TikTok has taken given an entire new dimension to the social media landscape by giving the people a creative app to produce fast content. In a world where attention spans are shorter than they have ever been and people constantly are looking for something else to fill that endorphin rush James provides that and more. As someone who is a huge fan of JamesDroz556 I have laughed at 95% of his videos, with the other 5% being when he calls out my beloved Boston Celtics and New England Patriots. People who watch James’ videos can see and feel his passion through their phones, as he shows what it is all about being a true sports fan.
