Derek Carr is a top Jets option

Derek Carr is one of the leading candidates to be the New York Jets’ signal caller in 2023. The former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback met with the New Orleans Saints earlier in the month. He met with the Jets over the weekend. A new report summarized how the meeting went between Carr and the Jets.

The Jets are serious about landing an elite quarterback next season. They inquired about an Aaron Rodgers trade from the Green Bay Packers. Because Rodgers playing status for 2023 is still unknown, the Jets are hedging their bets with other options.

The Jets have faith in Carr

Jeff Darlington went on ESPN’s get up to talk about how the meeting went between Carr and the Jets:

I’m told that it was a very positive meeting,” Darlington said. “The Jets really believe Carr is the type of quality that can lead them to a potential championship. They also believe the meeting went really well.”

However, even though the meeting went well, Darlington said the Jets still had to make a decision on Rodgers. And that could be time sensitive for a hot commodity like Carr:

“The team also remains fascinated in the possibility of adding [ Rodgers],” Darlington said. “So why is that a problem? The timeline. Right now, we’re looking at a situation where Aaron Rodgers hasn’t even gone to the Packers to say whether he wants to be traded. We don’t know if the Packers would be willing to trade him…So do the Jets go hard for Derek Carr now, or do they risk potentially losing him, and waiting it out for Aaron Rodgers?”

This will be an interesting development in the next few days when Rodgers comes out of his darkness retreat.
