The Houston Texans had just picked at number two overall but they were not done. The team traded with the Arizona Cardinals for the third overall pick in order to get one of the top defensive players in the draft, Will Anderson Jr. out of Alabama.
Houston Texans Trade Up For Will Anderson
They paid a hefty price. The Cardinals will get number 12 and 33 overall in this year’s draft. Then they also get a first-round pick in 2024 and a third-round pick in 2024. This may seem like a hefty price but because of the Deshaun Watson trade, the Texans have some picks to spare. They end up getting the quarterback of the future and one of the top defensive players in this year’s draft. Seems like a win for a team that has not had much to cheer about in the past couple of seasons.
A Big Swing
No one can say that the Houston Texans are not going for it. They are looking to not be picking at the top of the draft again next year. New head coach Demeco Ryans has been known to get a lot out of his defenses and now he has a premier talent to work with. This roster definitely needs more but they are not looking to compete right away. The hope for this team is to show some promise so they can compete in the future.
I love what the Houston Texans did in going to get Will Anderson. Too many teams sit passively and go nowhere. The Texans are trying to build something in Houston. If both of these players develop, they have the bedrock of the offense and defense for years to come.
