After missing 14 games in his first two seasons, Houston Texans‘ elite cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. managed to play every game during his third season, building off his strong finish in his second season. Stingley boasted career-highs in pass deflections and tied 2023 for the most interceptions, which earned him his first Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro selection. He recorded five interceptions and 18 pass deflections, allowing 382 yards, four touchdowns, and an impressive 51.2 passer rating.
The Houston Texans DB is eligible for a contract extension
Derek Stingley Jr. enters the fourth year of his rookie contract and also has a $17,595,000 fully guaranteed 5th-year option due in May for the 2026 season. Since he completed his third regular season, Stingley is eligible to renegotiate or sign a contract extension immediately per Article 7, Section 3 (k) (i) of the CBA. Finally, an extension seems logical for the Texans this offseason because he has developed into one of the league’s top cornerbacks, so it doesn’t become a potential distraction.

Houston Texans announce record-breaking contract for elite DB
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Texans and Derek Stingley Jr. have agreed to a record-breaking contract. As Schefter points out, the deal is for three years and is worth a staggering $90 million, with $89 million guaranteed. On top of that, the Texans will exercise his 5th-year option, making him under contract for the next five years.
