The Houston Texans have had a significant roster move in recent days as the club parted with tight end Harrison Bryant, the deal coming only a few days after bringing him on board in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. Harrison Bryant is being cut as the Texans, like the rest of the NFL, reduce their roster to the mandatory 53-man limit prior to the regular season opener.

The Eagles acquired WR John Metchie III and a 2026 5th from the Texans by sending them TE Harrison Bryant and a 2026 6th.

A Short Houston Stint For Harrison Bryant

Bryant, a Mackey Award winner and a fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2020, came to Houston as part of the package that sent wide receiver John Metchie III to Philadelphia. Although tolerably safe and prolific at the college level, Bryant never made a spot in an overcrowded tight end unit that comprises comfortable hands and fertile college credentials, such as Dalton Schultz and second-year Cade Stover.

    Tight End Room Remains Competitive

The release of Bryant is an indication that the Texans are confident in their top two, at least with Schultz, a proven starter, and Stover getting positive camp reviews. Houston has also lost Brevin Jordan due to an injury this month, and it will now expect more of its depth to step up and open a chance for players who have not been included on the active list yet.

    Looking Ahead

Bryant is having to find another solution in the NFL, the competition after changing after another: he was in Cleveland, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, and now Houston. In Houston, it is all about cementing an attractively balanced attack dominated by C.J. Stroud with a significantly new cast. Cuts are behind us, and the wait to kick off is at an all-time high in Houston.
