The Houston Texans’ run defense is looking to build on last season’s strong performance against opposing running backs. Their defense finished in the top 12 in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, yards per carry, and rushing first downs. The Texans ranked 11th in yards, tied for 4th in touchdowns, tied for 9th in yards per carry, and tied for 9th in rushing first downs.
Houston was able to retain many of its core contributors, including Mario Edwards Jr., on its interior defensive line, and it brought Sheldon Rankins back. However, one of their starters and contributors is still available.
The Houston Texans DT is a free agent

Foley Fatukasi had a solid 2024 campaign, playing an important role as a run-stopper, but missed six games with injuries. Fatukasi recorded 27 tackles, five TFLs, three QB hits, and one sack in 13 regular-season and postseason starts. He also posted 15 run stops and an 8.2% run stop rate.
The reason Fatukasi remained unsigned was his injury history. He battled a shoulder injury, which required surgery, and missed six games with a foot injury and an ankle injury.
Houston Texans retain key run-stopper

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Texans have re-signed Foley Fatukasi to a contract. As a result, he will return to Houston and will compete for the starting defensive tackle job this summer. Not only will the team retain a possible starter, but also a key run-stopper, which will boost their chances of being a top-10 defense against the run next year.
