The Houston Texans announced they were pledging support to help communities in Central Texas that were impacted by flash flooding on Friday, which continued over the July 4 weekend holiday. Per Reuters, 27 people, including nine children, died in flash floods.

Kerr County was hit the hardest, and more than 800 people had to be evacuated from the area. A nearby summer camp, Camp Mystic, saw waters rise nearly 29 feet following thunderstorms that sent nearly 15 inches of rain their way. 20+ people are missing who were staying at Camp Mystic during the thunderstorm.

Amid the tragedy, the Texans announced they planned to send $500,000 to help nearby communities affected by the flooding.

“The Houston Texans are committing $500,000 to provide support and resources to those impacted by the devastating flooding in the Texas Hill Country communities,” the Texans posted on X.

The Texans’ owners released a statement on the disaster

The McNair family, who own the Texans, wrote that they were heartbroken by the loss of life and damage to property from the flash floods.

“We are heartbroken by the loss and damage that our neighbors in the Texas Hill Country have endured,” the McNairs said in a statement. “We are especially devastated to hear about the children who are still missing and we are praying they are reunited with their families soon.

“Our hearts will remain with everyone affected and in addition to our donation, we will continue to support the search, rescue and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.”
