The Houston Texans hope their offensive line can have a healthier 2024 campaign after many players battled injuries and missed time in 2023. The Texans had three left tackles, four left guards, two centers, and two right tackles starting last season.
Their elite offensive lineman battled an injury all season long.
The Houston Texans’ elite Pro Bowl tackle battled a knee injury
Laremy Tunsil suffered a knee injury in Week 1 that caused him to miss the next three weeks. Tunsil managed to play through the injury, having his knee drained throughout the season. He reinjured his knee in the Wild Card but returned to the game and played every snap in the Divisional Round.
So far, he has had a busy offseason recovering.
Their elite left tackle underwent knee surgery
Tunsil underwent arthroscopic knee surgery near the end of February to clean up his knee. The surgery was successful, and he spent the offseason recovering. He missed offseason workouts, including OTAs and mandatory minicamp.
Will he be ready to go for training camp?
Will he be ready for training camp?
Rookies and veterans reported to training camp yesterday, Wednesday, July 17. According to Aaron Wilson, Tunsil was one of the players who reported to training camp and is healthy.
“#Texans Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil fully healthy heading into training camp after offseason arthroscopic knee surgery cleanup procedure. While expected to ease into start of camp, should be good to go during this preseason after positive offseason of training @KPRC2.”
They are not expected to place him on the PUP list.
UPDATE: Tunsil did not practice on the first day of training camp. Blake Fisher filled in for him at left tackle.
Why does this news matter?
Tunsil reporting to training camp matters for many reasons because he’s healthy, one of the best-left tackles in the league, they don’t have to rely on a young, inexperienced player starting in his spot, and he’s imperative to making a Super Bowl run.
The Texans hope their offensive line, including their four-time Pro Bowl, starting left tackle, can stay healthy all season long.
