The Houston Texans had a hectic situation at left guard last season. Their projected starter, Kenyon Green, missed the entire 2023 season due to a shoulder injury in their preseason finale. That’s not all. The Texans had four players start at LG.
Josh Jones started Week 1, but an injury to Laremy Tunsil caused him to take over at LT for Weeks 2 and 3. However, Jones suffered a hand injury, missed Weeks 4 and 5, and fell out of the starting rotation. Kendrick Green, who took over in Week 2, started Weeks 2-4 but suffered a knee injury and missed the rest of the season.
Tytus Howard, who missed the first four games due to a hand injury, filled in for Green, starting Weeks 5-12, and suffered a season-ending knee injury. Juice Scruggs, who missed the first ten games due to a hamstring injury, filled in for the injured Howard and started Weeks 13-18 and the two playoff games.
One of their starters who suffered a knee injury is feeling better.

Kendrick Green, who started Weeks 2-4, suffered a season-ending meniscus tear in his right knee, which caused him to miss the rest of the season. He underwent knee surgery during the fall. He fully recovered from his injury and is feeling better.
“I feel great, I’m ready to get after it,” Green told KPRC 2 during teammate Steven Sims Jr.’s youth football camp. “I’m excited, man. I feel great. I’m in the best shape I’ve been in in my whole life, so I’m ready to go.”
Kendrick is in the final year of his rookie contract and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2025. Heading into training camp, he is healthy and will compete for a starting spot.
Kendrick Green will compete for the starting LG position

Since Juice Scruggs converted back to center and Tytus Howard moved back to right tackle, his natural position, the Texans have an open starting spot at left guard. Green is one of the few players competing. He is excited to compete.
“I think it’s going to be fun, I’m excited,” Green said. “I know a lot of other guys are excited. So, we’re going to get after it and see how it comes out.”
He will compete against a former first-round pick.
The Houston Texans’ 1st-round pick from 2022 will also compete for the spot

Kenyon Green will also compete for the starting spot. Green, a former 1st-round pick from 2022, enters his third year in the league. After struggling in his rookie season, he suffered a torn labrum in their preseason finale and missed the 2023 season. He also fully recovered from his injury.
Kenyon enters a pivotal 2024 season, as the Texans must decide on his 5th-year option for the 2026 season next May. Based on the way he’s played so far, they will likely decline his option, but if he plays well, they could change their minds.
So far, Kenyon has received first-team reps throughout offseason workouts. However, that could change when training camp begins, and they put on the pads.
