This week’s Hispanic Heritage Month Spotlight will focus on a rookie – Chris Olave!
Chris Olave is a Buckeye alum!
At The Ohio State, the wide-receiver Olave holds the record for the most career TD receptions – 35! He also graduated with 2,700 rushing yards. Those stats along with his speed and consistently high percentage of completed catches made him a desirable draft pick.
Chris Olave in the draft:
During the draft the saints traded up to choose Olave – their first selection. Olave was drafted in the 1st round, and was the 11th pick overall. He also is the first Hispanic player to be drafted in 2022.
Chris Olave as a New Orleans Saint:
Olave has proven to be an much needed addition. It doesn’t even seem like he is a rookie!
In week 3, Olave is one of Jameis Winston’s top targets – He racked up 9 receptions, and 147 yards on Sunday’s game. Stats that made him a Saint’s stud, not dud.
Chris Olave off the field:
Chris Olave doesn’t talk about his personal life often.
We do know he gives back – he hosted a football camp at his High School alma mater, Mission Hills High in San Marcos, CA.
We also know Chris is strongly connected to his family. They are his inspiration to succeed on the field. He speaks of his love for his brothers and parents. He acknowledged his parents have done so much for him.
Olave’s parents actually moved the family mid-way through Chris’s high school career because Chris and his brother, Josh, weren’t meeting the high academic standards his parents expected. No video games even! It has paid off. Isiah Olave played for UC-Davis, and Josh Olave plays as a cornerback for Weber State University.
Chris Olave in the future?
Chris has a heart for his family, and already focuses on giving back. He is definitely a role model.
It will be exciting to follow Olave’s bright future in the NFL.
