Cam Heyward will have a busy week on and off the field before the Steelers square off against the Jets on Sunday when kicks off “Cam’s Kindness Week”. This will be the first annual Cam’s Kindness Week for the co-captain of the Steelers. Heyward and teammates will carry out acts of kindness throughout the Pittsburgh community.
“I want it to be something together and I want it to be something we can work on,” the defensive tackle said. “Hopefully I set the example so others can follow. Whether it’s Cam’s Kindness or TJ’s Kindness or whoever. Anyone’s capable of giving back and anyone’s capable of helping out.”
Weekly Schedule
His first stop on Monday was a visit to the Dream Big Studio at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. With teammate T.J. Watt as his sidekick, they were celebrity hosts for their What’s in the Box game show with patients and staff.
Tuesday’s schedule will have Heyward reading books to children from the McKeesport Presbyterian Church’s Head Start program. After the book reading, he will then paint the newest installation of his own Little Free Libraries. This is part of an initiative to promote children’s literacy and to honor his grandparents, who were educators in the Pittsburgh area. Tuesday’s busy schedule will then end with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Barack Obama Academy of International Studies. This is the new site for Craig’s Closet, a program designed by Heyward to provide dress clothes to high school boys for interviews, banquets, etc. This program is also dedicated to Heyward’s father.
Heyward’s plans for Wednesday and Thursday include toy donations at Angel’s Place and a Community Clean Up. The Community Clean Up will feature Steelers teammates and will be held at Sheridan Ave. Orchard and Garden in Pittsburgh.
Friday’s game plan will include a donation to Girls Flag Football. Girl’s teams throughout the community will be invited to the Steelers’ complex to take in practice and receive the donation.
To cap off the week, Heyward will provide pregame passes and tickets to alumni of his Craig’s Closet program for Sunday’s game against the Jets.
“It’s a time to make others smile, pick others up and help others in the community,” Heyward said.
Cam Heyward is an All-Pro on the field, and “Cam’s Kindness Week” continues to solidify his legacy as an All’Pro off the field.
