The New York Giants have had a very good training camp, and the positive vibes seem to be different than they have in year’s past. Head coach Brain Daboll has liked a lot of things he has seen with New York during training camp.

One of the things that has been different is quarterback Russell Wilson. He is providing a veteran presence inside that locker room. This is the kind of leadership that the Giants have been missing since Eli Manning retired. Daniel Jones was the quarterback for part of the 2024 season for New York before they decided to release him. Will New York be different on offseason during the 2025 season because of Wilson’s presence?

The Giants head coach spoke to the media on Monday morning about the leadership that Wilson has provided in the locker room during the early parts of training camp. Daboll said,

“He’s provided leadership to our football team in various ways.”

It is a positive thing for Daboll to say about Wilson. During the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wilson completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed for 155 yards on 43 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 3.6 yards per carry. Wilson is 36 years old and has performed at a high level for many years.

What he is already providing to this team is constant communication to second-year wide receiver Malik Nabers. Wilson is being a leader not only for him, but the rest of the team as well. This is one of the reasons why the Giants decided to sign him in free agency this offseason. His veteran presence could help the Giants make massive progress during the 2025 NFL season, after they just finished with a 3-14 overall record during the 2024 NFL season.
