Buffalo Bills running back James Cook is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He is 25 years old and is looking to get paid amongst the top tier running backs in the NFL.

Cook has been an important part of this offense over the last few seasons outside of quarterback MVP Josh Allen. Running backs have become important once again in the NFL. Cook was also absent at OTAs on Tuesday because of not having a new contract before the 2025 NFL season begins.
CBS Sports Writer Has Running Back James Cook As Top Priority For the Buffalo Bills To Re-Sign

CBS sports writer Tyler Sullivan created a list of one player for each NFL team in who needs to be re-signed and given a contract extension. The one player on the Bills roster who will need a contract extension is the former Georgia Bulldogs running back. This is not surprising because Cook is one of the most important players on the offense. Sullivan said,
“The Bills running back is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and it hasn’t been a secret that he’s looking to get paid. Back in February, Cook indicated that he was looking at a deal around $15 million per season. If he gets such a deal, it’ll knot him with Baltimore’s Derrick Henry as the third-highest paid running back in the league on an average annual basis. In 2024, Cook tied O.J. Simpson for the most rushing touchdowns (16) in a season in franchise history. If he keeps putting up those totals, he’ll continue to build a solid case to be paid. “
Cook during the 2024 NFL season with Buffalo rushed for 1,009 yards on 207 carries and 16 touchdowns, along with averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He also caught 258 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.1 yards per reception. Cook was tied for first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns during the 2024 NFL season with Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.
The Bills star running back was ranked 16th in the NFL in rushing yards last season. He was also one of 16 running backs who rushed for over 1,000 yards during the 2024 NFL season. Buffalo needs to give its star running back a new contract as soon as possible. They need to do it as soon as possible because they don’t want this to linger into training camp as well.
