The Michigan Wolverines just recently got another notable addition to their 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of Cincinnati St. Xavier’s standout quarterback, Chase Herbstreit. Known for his remarkable senior season, Herbstreit’s journey from being the son of ESPN analyst and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit to committing to one of college football’s elite programs is captivating fans nationwide.
Chase Herbstreit has proven himself to be a versatile quarterback. His senior year in school was impressive, throwing for more than 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns and rushing for 649 yards and eight touchdowns.
Herbstreit’s skills earned him On3’s place as the No. 128 quarterback in the class, positioning him as a standout player who can contribute significantly to Michigan in the long run in future seasons.
Chase Herbstreit Performance Highlights from St. Xavier

according to the Director of Scouting and Rankings at On3, Charles Power, Chase has improved a lot throughout his high school career. Power’s evaluation included that he grips well with a pro-style offense and is comfortable under center. “Chase Herbstreit has shown steady progress in his senior year,” Power said.
The son of former Ohio State quarterback and long-time ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has led St. X to a 7-3 record while accounting for over 1,500 yards and 19 touchdowns. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder looks to have a strong grasp on the pro-style offensive scheme and is comfortable working from under center. He’s added arm strength and displays good zip on intermediate passes.
“We’ve also seen Herbstreit become more of a run threat as a senior. He’s effective in avoiding pass rushers and is more than capable of picking up chunks of yardage as a scrambler and on designed runs. The level of improvement and the general competitive nature Herbstreit shows has us feeling he will maximize his talent.”

Chase joins an already talented Michigan class that includes top-notch recruits like Bryce Underwood. Another astounding addition has been a Five-Star Plus+ quarterback, and the recruit number one overall: Underwood. This means Herbstreit is already included among those elite athletes.

There’s been substantial Twitter buzz around Herbstreit’s commitment:
Jonathan Stewart (@Stew59160381) shared a mixed sentiment with his tweet: “He’ll never see the field but good for him. I’m sure Herbie can’t afford to send him anywhere he wants.”
amango (@amangoxbt) pointed out the competition in Michigan’s QB room: “With Bryce Underwood already in the class, how does Herbstreit even fit in the mix? Michigan’s QB room about to get real crowded lol.”
I think this says a lot about what Kirk thinks of Ryan Day as OSU Head Coach. 🤔

Suspicious…committing to be an insider in your archrivals program and be able to relay Michigan's scheme.
