Heisman Watch and National Players of the Week – Week 13
Heisman Watch
The Leaders:
1. Caleb Williams, USC, Quarterback, Sophomore.
Williams’ stats are speaking for themself. On the year he is 268 of 407 for 3,712 yards 34 touchdowns passing and 97 carries for 350 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing. He is one of nine FBS quarterbacks to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for more than 300 yards. The Heisman is his to lose.
2. Max Duggan, TCU, Quarterback, Senior.
Max Duggan and undefeated TCU are right there waiting if USC were to fall to Utah again. As long as Duggan was solid and TCU were to beat Kansas State, he’d then become the favorite. He’s 221 of 332 for 3,070 yards and 29 touchdowns passing with 97 carries for 294 yards and five touchdowns rushing. A USC loss, a TCU win, and those numbers going up just a little and Duggan is your Heisman winner.
3. Blake Corum, Michigan, Running Back, Junior.

Corum’s case will rest on him being healthy and having a good game against Purdue in a win and for the two guys in front him to both lose their conference championship games. This isn’t out of the realm of possibility at all. He has 247 carries 1,463 yards and 19 total touchdowns and that’s with missing a game and a half. Corum has legit shot.
4. Drake Maye, North Carolina, Quarterback, Freshman.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596296993701175296
Again it will depend on guys infront of him stumbling or remaining out with injury but if that happens and he were to light up Clemson in the ACC title game, Maye could be a freshman Heisman Trophy winner. Maye is 298 of 440 for 3,847 yards and 35 touchdowns passing with 161 carries and 629 yards and six touchdowns rushing.
Farewell
Bo Nix, Oregon, Quarterback, Senior.
Nix had one of the more up and down seasons of college football I’ve seen an elite player have in a while. Despite losing two of their last three Nix and the Ducks still have had a good year under first-year coach Dan Lanning. Nix was 271 of 378 for 3,389 yards passing and 83 carries for 508 yards rushing and he had a whopping total of 41 touchdowns (27 passing and 14 rushing).
C.J. Stroud, Ohio State, Quarterback, Junior.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596557222795878401
Poor C.J. Stroud will forever be associated with 0-2. 82 total touchdowns won’t be remembered but 0-2 will. That’s just the way it is. Stroud gave his all though and the fault isn’t with him (see Day’s Debacles). Stroud was 235 of 355 for 3,340 yards and 37 touchdowns for the Bucks.
National Players of the Week
National Player of the Week:
Michael Penix, Washington, Quarterback, Junior.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596743493090582528
Penix was 25 of 43 for 485 yards and three touchdowns passing with two carries for 34 yards and two touchdowns rushing. On the year Penix is 330 of 500 for 4,354 yards and 33 total touchdowns. He has the Huskies at 10-2 and poised for a New Year’s Six Bowl. The Rose Bowl if USC goes to the playoff, an at-large bid if Utah goes to the Rose Bowl.
National Offensive Player of the Week:
Caleb Williams, USC, Quarterback, Sophomore.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596912814819807234
Williams had another Heisman worthy game against rival Notre Dame. He was 18 of 22 for 232 yards and a touchdown passing and had nine carries for 35 yards and three touchdowns rushing.
National Defensive Player of the Week:
Sydney Brown, Illinois, Safety, Senior.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596637340314656768
Brown had six tackles and made three turnovers on defense. He had two interceptions and one fumble recovery. He took one of the picks and the fumble recovery to the house for touchdowns as Illinois finished their season a surprising 8-4 in the first year of the Bret Bielema Era.
National Special Teams’ Player of the Week:
Dee Williams, Tennessee, Defensive Back, Junior.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596679868162285569
Williams helped out the Vol offense who missed Hendon Hooker in their hearts but not on the scoreboard. Williams three punt returns for 96 yards including this 73-yarder for a touchdown gave the Vols an extra boost as they are 10-2.
Honorable Mention of the Week:
Kimani Vidal, Troy, Running Back, Sophomore.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596645177266868224
Vidal had his second straight 200-yard rushing game. He had 33 carries for 208 yards and four touchdowns, last week he had 29 carries for 242 yards and two touchdowns. On the year he has 189 carries for 1,006 yards and nine touchdowns.
Brad Roberts, Air Force, Fullback, Senior.
https://twitter.com/i/status/1596688926416461824
The Last of the Fullbacks had 35 yards for 187 yards and a touchdown as Air Force moved to 9-3. On the year Roberts has 308 carries for 1,612 yards and 15 touchdowns. Long live fullbacks!
