Evidently football analysts across the board are already predicting after week 4 who will win the coveted Heisman Trophy.
Stop! Stop! Stop! We are just one-third of the way through the 2022 season and only a handful of teams have faced a formidable opponent.
Teams are just starting to find what works, and players are becoming more comfortable within their team. The recipient of the Heisman epitomizes great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.
Four games into the season are far to early to mention players who are front-runners based on four weeks of performance. Eventually the top players will begin to separate themselves from the pack, once the competition gets tougher.
Since the award is not presented until the end of the season, lets just move on from early Heisman talk.
When The Term Heisman Candidate Should Surface
It very basic to talk about great players who we know has done well so far in the season.
Save all the Heisman talk for the last third of the season, typically when teams and players feel the pressure.
Generally the last third of the season is the toughest, teams have suffered injuries and opponents have plenty of film to prepare their teams.
After 8 games, the candidates or Heisman watch list should be released. A later release will allow for more stats and better highlight reels. No one wants to a player rip a big run or throw multiple TD’s against and FCS team.
Additionally the fans and voters want to see how these players perform, and most do not want or pay attention to what others are boasting. Great players actions will speak for it, in hard fought wins and blowouts.
Finally instead of all this early Heisman hype, use that energy to talk about players who may have earned scholarships, or the good teams and players are doing within their local community. The players along with he fans make up the community in which they reside. Highlighting off the field effort is equally important and is ofter over shadowed.
