The Pittsburgh Steelers have been making many veteran moves this offseason. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was signed in free agency on a one-year deal.

Pittsburgh also traded for wide receiver D.K. Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks and also traded for cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins. The Steelers also traded away wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys for a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Pittsburgh also signed T.J. Watt to a long-term deal. Do the Steelers need to make any more moves? One free agent that could fill a potential void on the roster is wide receiver Keenan Allen.
NFL Analyst Urges Pittsburgh Steelers To Sign Keenan Allen To Fill Second Wide Receiver Void

Kevin Patra of nfl.com wrote about best fits for current free agents across the league. Allen is still a free agent, and he played for the Chicago Bears in 2024. Patra thinks that Allen would be a good fit for the Steelers. He said,
“At this point, it seems like the outside world cares more about the Steelers’ WR2 gig than team decision-makers do. The offseason revamp of their aerial attack brought in DK Metcalf, who is a WR1, and tight end Jonnu Smith, who joins Pat Freiermuth as a good pass catcher at that position. But after trading away George Pickens, Pittsburgh appears to be banking on second-year pro Roman Wilson, who missed all but five snaps last year due to injury, and an aging Robert Woods to step up opposite Metcalf. If the Steelers want to finally break through their playoff doldrums, why not keep the party going with another veteran searching for a ring? Allen has dealt with injuries and struggled at times last year in Chicago, but he can still generate separation and would provide Aaron Rodgers with another experienced player who understands the nuances of the position. And while Allen and Woods are both 33, Allen’s last 1,000-yard season (2023) is a much fresher memory than Woods’ (2019). Allen’s ability to play on the outside or slot would be a boon if Calvin Austin III and/or Wilson struggle to connect with Rodgers. The Steelers have gone all in this offseason. They shouldn’t stop now.”
Metcalf will be a very good number one wide receiver for Rodgers, but there will be many questions after that at wide receiver for Pittsburgh. Allen would immediately become the Steelers number two wide receiver if Pittsburgh decided to sign him. At 33 years old, he can still do things well.
During the 2024 NFL season with Chicago, he caught 70 passes for 744 yards receiving and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 10.6 yards per reception. Allen was targeted 121 times. One thing that Rodgers likes is reliable wide receivers who get open and catch the football. If Pittsburgh wants to put its chips on the table for Rodgers’s final season in the NFL, then they should try and sign Allen.
He was the number two option for Caleb Williams last season with the Bears behind D.J. Moore. Pittsburgh’s offense has not been dynamic over the last few seasons under head coach Mike Tomlin. It could be different if they were to bring in Allen even if he is an older player.
