The LSU Tigers fired head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday night after spending the last three and a half years with the football program. LSU decided to move on from Kelly, and they did not make the college football playoffs with him as the head coach.

With the Tigers moving in a different direction, it will be interesting to see which head coach they will be targeting this offseason. One potential name to keep an eye on is Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin. Not only will LSU be interested in him, but the Florida Gators could potentially be interested in him as well.
College Football Insider Lists Lane Kiffin As Potential Top Candidate For LSU Tigers Job

There are a lot of college football head coaching openings already and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet. It is going to be interesting to see if Kiffin will want to leave Ole Miss after this season or potentially go elsewhere. Bruce Feldman of the Athletic listed many different head coaches who LSU could potentially hire.
He thinks that Kiffin could very well be the Tigers top choice. Feldman said,
“Kiffin fits both categories, and he seemed to relish taking digs at Kelly whenever possible. Whether he is ready to leave Oxford, where his extended family has settled in nicely, is another matter. The 50-year-old has done an excellent job and has the No. 7 Rebels in prime position to get into the College Football Playoff for the first time. His Rebels have finished in the top 11 in three of the past four seasons and are on track to make it four times in five years. They’re 7-1 with their lone loss at Georgia. They responded by winning Saturday at No. 13 Oklahoma. Timing could be tricky with a potential extended Playoff run in play. Even trickier: Kiffin is expected to be one of the top targets for the UF vacancy in a state where he’s had a lot of success, winning two conference titles at Florida Atlantic.”
The Rebels are not only on the verge of going to the college football playoffs this season, but they could have a chance to make it to the SEC Championship Game as well. Kiffin has been the head coach of the Rebels football program since the 2020 NFL season.
He has a lot of security with Ole Miss. Would he want to leave this program for a higher stakes program like LSU and Florida? That is something that Kiffin and his family are going to have to decide sooner rather than later. If he does stay at Ole Miss and not go to LSU or Florida, it would mean that Kiffin is happy with where he is.
