Resume and reputation matter a lot more than star power in the world of NFL broadcasting—just ask Greg Olsen. One of the league’s sharpest analysts is the former Pro Bowl tight end who has once again been nominated for a Sports Emmy, which is recognition for his sharp voice. The drama of this nomination goes even further. Fox’s current number 1 NFL analyst is Tom Brady; not Greg Olsen.
Honored to be nominated for my 4th consecutive @TheEmmys 🏆🏆

Yes, that Tom Brady.
Even though Brady was handed the top booth position alongside Kevin Burkhardt and a huge $375 million, 10-year deal. Greg Olsen continued to do what he does best since he got the lead analyst position in 2022, calling games with insight, clarity, and charisma. His analysis has consistently resonated with fans and experts alike. Even if he was bumped down to the number two booth spot to make way for Tom Brady’s season debut.
While Brady’s rookie year in the booth left many underwhelmed. His name earned viewers, but his commentary was hesitant and informed less than Olsen’s confident breakdowns. Meanwhile, Olsen also called high-profile games, including the Netflix Christmas Day debut, and did his part even without the marquee assignment.
The Emmy nommination appears to corroborate what most feel is already evident: Olsen is still the best analyst on Fox. Olsen has made it clear that he wants to call top games.
Greg Olsen not going quietly into that good night. “I want to call top games.” Great exchange on Dan Patrick’s show. He did XFL games, non-A games, and climbed to the top. He’s awesome. pic.twitter.com/XOdMr8PH00

Other Nominees with Greg Olsen
The other Outstanding Personality/Event Analyst category nominees include heavyweights like Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Bill Raftery, and John Smoltz. Olsen belongs in that company—and may even be the frontrunner, having won the award last year.

As for Fox, the optics aren’t great. They invested in Brady like he was the future of sports broadcasting, only to watch Olsen continue to outperform him from the network’s secondary slot. There’s no question the Emmy nomination stings a bit for the suits who bet big on Brady.
This nomination only makes it so Olsen has an even stronger leverage when rumors start swirling about him jumping from this network to another.
Bottom line: if Emmy nods were NFL contracts, Greg Olsen would be the $375 million man.
