Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers have just one goal in mind heading into the upcoming 2025 NFL season. That goal is to win a Super Bowl. Nothing else would qualify as a successful season for this group.
Over the last two years since the Packers moved on from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the team has made the playoffs. Unfortunately, they have come up short of their ultimate goal.
Jordan Love has showed promise of big-time potential. However, he suffered an injury in Week 1 of the 2024 season and never was able to fire on all cylinders. Malik Willis played well when Love was on the sideline, which gives Green Bay confidence that it has a legitimate backup quarterback.
However, the Packers have been urged to consider making a shocking trade ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Green Bay Packers Urged to Make Shocking Trade Before 2025 NFL Season
FanSided’s Rucker Haringey has suggested that the Packers could look to trade Wills before Week 1 of the 2025 season.
“What should the Packers do if they receive something north of a third-round pick in exchange for Willis? That might be enough to tempt Gutekunst to roll the dice behind Love,” Haringey wrote. “The odds strongly favor Willis staying in Green Bay for another season but his status is something to keep a close eye on.”

There are still teams around the NFL who could use help at the quarterback position. As teams get an idea what they have under center during training camp and preseason action, there are some who could shop for better options. Willis would be a potential option for those teams.
During the 2024 NFL season with Green Bay, Willis played in seven games. He also made two starts, completing 74.1 percent of his pass attempts for 550 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while also rushing for 138 yards and a score.
Keeping him in town to provide insurance behind Love would be wise. But, if the Packers get offered a good pick, Brian Gutekunst might very well have to consider the option.
Don’t expect to see Willis get traded, but it’s something to keep in the back of your mind as the season draws closer.
