Jordan Love cemented his status as the Green Bay Packers’ franchise quarterback during a stellar second half of the 2023 season, leading the charge to the doorstep of the NFC Championship Game, but, should the organization be looking for an insurance policy?

Love, in his first season as the Packers’ starter, completed 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards with 32 touchdowns to just 11 seasons, seeming to improve as the regular season wore on, and orchestrated a blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Round.
However, as training camp looms later this month, at least one NFL analyst believes the Packers should prioritize adding a quarterback.
Does Ryan Tannehill Fit Green Bay Packers?

Pro Football Network’s Lorenzo Reyna compiled a list of each team’s top remaining priorities before the season kicks off, including suggesting the Packers sign … a quarterback?
Reyna lists the Packers as an ideal fit for former Tennessee Titans signal-caller Ryan Tannehill.
“No, this isn’t a possible replacement for QB1 Jordan Love,” Reyna writes for PFN. “However, Love and the Packers will need someone reliable in case he goes down.
“Ryan Tannehill gives immediate assurance if brought in — with a past as a Pro Bowler, a playoff QB, and a backup.”
Tannehill was replaced by second-round rookie Will Levis in 2023, after tossing just four touchdown passes with seven interceptions in 10 games, and remains available largely because teams seem to have found better options in the top two slots of their quarterback depth charts.
In Green Bay, the Packers have second-year quarterback Sean Clifford as Love’s backup, and the former fifth-round pick is entering just the second year of his rookie contract and completed his lone pass attempt for 37 yards last season.
While Tannehill would add veteran experience, it’s unclear whether a mentor is really what Love needs at this stage as he enters his fourth NFL season.
Likewise, the Packers are on the cusp of signing Love to an extension and have just approximately $28 million in cap space this season, which may be better spent in other areas besides a veteran backup quarterback.
