The Green Bay Packers defeated the Indianapolis Colts 16-10 on Sunday afternoon to earn their first win of the 2024 NFL regular season. Green Bay was able to get the win despite playing without starting quarterback Jordan Love, who sprained his MCL in the final seconds of the Packers’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week One.
Malik Willis, who was acquired via trade with the Tennessee Titans three weeks ago, started in Love’s place, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions, and a 126.8 passer rating.
The victory, however, was accomplished due to the Packers’ ability to dominate the run game, especially in the first half.
Josh Jacobs Led the Green Bay Packers to Victory Over the Indianapolis Colts
Jacobs led Green Bay with 151 rushing yards on 32 attempts, his only hiccup being fumbling the ball in the endzone during the first half. Fortunately, it did not cost the Packers the game.
In total, the Packers amassed 261 yards on the ground, the majority of which came during the first half of the game. Their 237 rushing yards at halftime was the third-most in the NFL this century.
Willis was second on the team with 41 rushing yards. Wide receiver Jayden Reed had 37 rushing yards to go with his nine receiving yards.
Rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd, who was making his NFL debut, had 15 rushing yards on six carries.
Emanuel Wilson had nine yards and Bo Melton had eight.
The Green Bay Packers Have Placed Marshawn Lloyd on Injured Reserve
Lloyd was making his NFL debut in Week Two because he was recovering from a hamstring injury that he suffered during training camp in Week One. Unfortunately, it is going to be a while before he appears in a game again.
The Packers announced on Tuesday that they were placing Lloyd on injured reserve. Running back Chris Brooks has been added to their roster from the practice squad to take his place.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Lloyd suffered an ankle injury against the Colts:

This is Lloyd’s third injury since being drafted by the Packers. Before injuring his hamstring, he had missed some time in training camp due to a hip injury.
The Packers have designated Lloyd for a potential return, but being placed on injured reserve means he must miss a minimum of four games.
Chris Brooks appeared in nine games for the Miami Dolphins last year, getting 19 carries for 106 yards in that time. He was released by the team on August 27 of this year with an injury settlement.
