Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was able to avoid major injury when he went down in the final seconds of the team’s Week One game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Initially, fans, media members, and perhaps even Packers coaches feared that Love, who signed a $220 million contract in the early days of training camp, had torn his ACL and would be out for the year.
As we have learned this week, Love’s ACL did not suffer any damage. Instead, he has be en diagnosed with an MCL sprain. The recovery time for such an injury can range from anywhere between one and eight weeks, depending on the severity.
Love did not practice at all during week, with recently acquired backup Malik Willis taking all of the reps with the starting offense. The Packers, though, made the decision not to put Love on injured reserve and have listed him as questionable for Green Bay’s home opener against the Indianapolis Colts.
Green Bay Packers Fans Hope that Jordan Love Can Play Against the Indianapolis Colts
For most of the week, Green Bay had Love listed as doubtful for their Week Two contest with Indianapolis. However, the final injury report that was released on Friday had him upgraded to questionable.
This change in designation had Packers fans hoping and believing that their start quarterback could play on Sunday:

Jordan Love is playing, right? You don’t list your starting QB questionable and then not play him.

This belief was also influenced by Packers head coach Matt LaFleur saying that the door “is open” for Love to play on Sunday and that is injury is considered “day-to-day” by the team.
However, a recent report published by The Athletic will dash Packers’ fans hopes and dreams.
Green Bay Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Will Not Play Against the Indianapolis Colts
On Saturday morning, NFL insider Dianna Russini released a report of what she is hearing from her sources around the league. When it came to Love’s injury and the possibility that he could play against the Colts, she wrote:
“Packers coach Matt LaFleur has kept the door open for Jordan Love to possibly return for Sunday’s game against the Colts, listing him as questionable. Though I’m told: ‘That’s not happening.’ Love has an MCL sprain and has not been medically cleared to play.
“The Packers are trying to keep all competitive advantages intact, which includes forcing opponents to prepare for all their QBs. While they hope Love’s is a week-to-week injury, the reality is that next week’s game against the Titans is considered by those in the know to be ‘a long shot.’ The most optimistic timeline would have him back for Week 4 against the Vikings if there are no snags.”
As one can see, Russini reports that there is just no way that Love will play this week. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that he will play in Week Three against the Tennessee Titans.
The good news for Packers fans, though, is that Love has not been placed on injured reserve. If that had happened, he would have been out for at least four weeks. Since Green Bay has decided not to do that, it is likely that he will be back for Week Four at the earliest.
