The Green Bay Packers are fresh off of the first victory of the 2024 NFL regular season. They defeated the Indianapolis Colts 16-10 in the second-hottest game ever played at Lambeau Field. Green Bay was able to earn the win despite the heat by punishing the Colts’ defense on the ground, especially in the first half of the game.

As fans are well-aware, Green Bay was able to accomplish the victory without the services of Jordan Love, who was out with a sprained MCL. Instead, the Packers had former Tennessee Titans quarterback Malik Willis under center, who completed 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions, and a 126.8 passer rating.
The Packers’ biggest contributor on offense, though, was running back Josh Jacobs, who amassed 151 rushing yards on 32 carries in the scorching heat. All told, Green Bay accumulated 261 yards on the ground.
Unfortunately, they also lost one of their running backs in the process.
The Green Bay Packers Placed Running Back Marshawn Lloyd on Injured Reserve
Rookie running back Marshawn Lloyd, whom the Packers drafted in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, made his NFL debut on Sunday against the Colts. He rushed for 15 yards on six carries but will have to wait a few weeks before sees the field again.
Earlier this week, the Packers placed Lloyd on injured reserve with an ankle injury. While he will be able to come back after four weeks (at a minimum), this is the rookie’s third injury since being drafted by Green Bay.
Lloyd missed part of training camp with a hip injury, and then dealt with a hamstring injury later in camp that also forced him to miss the Packers’ Week One game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
To replace Lloyd on the 53-man roster, the Packers promoted running back Chris Brooks from the practice squad to serve as the team’s third back behind Jacobs and Emanuel Wilson.
The Green Bay Packers Signed Wide Receiver Cornelius Johnson to Their Practice Squad
With the promotion of Brooks, a spot opened up on the Packers’ practice squad. They filled this spot on Wednesday by signing former Michigan wide receiver Cornelius Johnson, who recently was a part of the Wolverines’ National Championship team.

Johnson was drafted in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. After he was left off the 53-man roster, he was cut and then re-signed to their practice squad.
Last year, in his final year at Michigan, Johnson had 47 receptions for 603 yards and a touchdown.
