Last season, the Green Bay Packers surprised everyone by having an impressive run in the playoffs in their first campaign without franchise great Aaron Rodgers. They have the potential to surpass that accomplishment if a trade proposal involving Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb becomes a reality.
The 2023 season marked a significant transition for the Packers, as they entered a new era without their longtime quarterback Aaron Rodgers. After 15 seasons as the team’s starter, Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in April, clearing the way for 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love to take over as the starting QB.
Despite struggling early in the season with a 3-6 record, the Packers rallied in the second half, going 6-2 to finish the year 9-8 and clinch the final NFC playoff spot. In the Wild Card round, the young Packers team made history, becoming the first 7-seed to win a playoff game with a 48-32 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
However, their postseason run ended in the Divisional round, as they fell 24-21 to the eventual NFC champion San Francisco 49ers. This marked the fifth time in 11 years that the 49ers had ended the Packers’ playoff hopes.
Green Bay Packers Acquire Dallas Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb in Stunning Trade Proposal
Although the Packers have made some moves in the offseason, the biggest one which involved signing Love to a massive contract extension, there’s still definitely room for improvement. In an article written by Maurice Moton for Bleacher Report, Green Bay can acquire Lamb for a pair of picks and Christian Watson.
“In exchange for Watson, a 25-year-old high-upside wideout, the Packers would get a bonafide No. 1 receiver as the rest of their young pass-catching group continues to grow into its own. They have $22.4 million in cap space this year, and $16.4 million for 2025, though the front office can restructure contracts to free up space if necessary.
The Cowboys may not love the idea of trading Lamb to the team that throttled them in the 2023 NFC Wild Card Round, but if they struggle to reach a new contract agreement with him, Dallas may see this offer as the best proposal in a resolution,” Moton wrote.
Lamb led the league in receptions and yards in 2023. However, contract negotiations with the Cowboys have stalled, causing tensions between the player and the organization. Lamb’s all-pro performance and Offensive Player of the Year finalist status position him to become one of the highest-paid receivers, but the ongoing contract dispute could complicate his future with the team.
The 2023 season was a transitional year for the Packers, but they showed resilience and potential for the future with their young core, led by Love. If the front office pulls a trade for Lamb off, the impressive run they had last year can surely be replicated.
