Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is remembered for being one of the greatest players in franchise history. A Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, there is no question that he was among the best players in his era. He was the first player ever to win three NFL MVP Awards (which he won in three consecutive years) and inspired an entire generation of quarterbacks with his fearless play and cannon of an arm.
Favre’s career, however, was not perfect, especially off of the field. The three-time NFL MVP battled addiction at the height of his dominance, but his ability to overcome it made him even more of a hero. His multiple scandals involving questionable interactions with women who were not his wife, though, tarnished his image.
Those scandals are over a decade in the past, long forgotten by many (though surely not to the women who were affected by them). Now, Favre is entrenched in a different scandal, one that could lead to him serving time in prison.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Is Accused of Stealing Money from the Mississippi Welfare Fund
As fans are well-aware, Favre is embroiled in a scandal that is has accused him of taking part in funneling millions of dollars away from the Mississippi welfare fund in an effort to build a new volleyball stadium at the college his daughter attended.
Mississippi has the highest poverty rate in the country.
When discussing the Favre welfare scandal, it should be noted that he has yet to be indicted for any crime. That being said, one of his business partners recently pled guilty to wire fraud in connection with the investigation.
The statute of limitations, though, is quickly running out for the state to file any charges against Favre. Despite the fact that state prosecutors are seemingly unsure of his guilt, or at least unsure of their ability to prove it, many Packers and NFL fans have already made up their minds.
NFL Fans All Say the Same Thing After Brett Favre’ Most Recent Political Post on Social Media
Any fans that follow Favre on social media know that the tends to lean right politically and has been a huge supporter of former President Donald Trump. Many of his more recent posts on X (formerly Twitter) have not been endorsements of his frequent golfing buddy, but rather messages to fans to do their own research and vote.
One of his most recent posts was about putting Americans first, and fans were quick to point out that he, in their minds, did not do that himself:
Wild to be lectured about patriotism by the guy who just stole $1 million in welfare funds from the poorest people in his state. https://t.co/w7IheKpK89

What about if you steal from other Americans when you’re a millionaire?? Where does that rank on the patriotism scale?? https://t.co/PXsBtSE7Sp

Preaching to us when you stole money from the less fortunate for your own family’s interests, is right on par with the decision making you exhibited during most of your career. #consistency https://t.co/LcTKPgmd74

If you’re rich and steal money from the poor, then you belong in prison. That’s it. https://t.co/E1Ub5Fk7Nb

Brett Favre really cares about the welfare of our people. Google Brett Farve welfare to learn more. https://t.co/s2npp804HN

Favre, of course, will not say anything about the allegations because they are still being investigated. However, it is clear that he is going to have a hard time getting fans back on his side regardless of what the outcome is.
