The Green Bay Packers have traded their last two franchise quarterbacks to the New York Jets. Brett Favre was traded to make way for Aaron Rodgers, while Rodgers himself was traded to clear the path for Jordan Love. Each quarterback’s exit has been messy due to how each perceived they were done wrong by the Packers organization.
It is, indeed, hard to separate the names of Favre and Rodgers for many reasons. The latter spent three seasons as the former’s backup quarterback, an era that is not fondly remembered by those who worked in Green Bay’s front office.
Now, though, Favre is retired and in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Despite what has been said about him and how he treated his successor, the three-time NFL MVP has been highly complementary of Rodgers for years. That continued in a recent interview with Zach Gelb.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Has a Bold Prediction for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets
The Jets have high hopes for the 2024 NFL season, especially with future Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers back and healthy. The four-time NFL MVP missed all but four snaps of the 2023 season after tearing his Achilles tendon in Week One against the Buffalo Bills. Now, the 40-year-old living legend is attempting to accomplish the goal that he and the Jets had for themselves when he was first traded to New York last year: win the Super Bowl.
There are, however, many who doubt that they will be able to achieve this level of success. After all, Achilles injuries have ended the careers of players far younger than Rodgers. Additionally, the Jets have not made the NFL Playoffs since 2010.

Favre, though, thinks Rodgers and the Jets can do it. He told Zach Gelb, “If Aaron’s healthy, I expect what everyone else expects, that he leads that team to potentially a championship. Their defense I don’t think anyone can question whether you’re familiar with the Jets or not, their defense is pretty darn stout. When you got a really good defense, you got a chance. Now you throw Aaron into the mix and you know there is probably not a better playmaker at quarterback starting in the league right now.
“Even at his age I mean he’s you know, throw the age out the number, and look at how he moves and gets rid of the ball and his football knowledge. He’s got the highest football IQ of anybody that I’ve ever been around. So I expect that they compete for not only the division championship [AFC East], but the conference championship.”
But while Favre will not be surprised if Rodgers and the Jets succeed, he is surprised by how he was portrayed in the new book, “Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers,” by Ian O’Connor.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre Claps Back at How He Portrayed in the Aaron Rodgers Book
In that same interview, Favre was asked about what was said about him in Rodgers’ new biography. Claims that he was cruel to his newly drafted successor were included in the book, though they were not necessarily stories that were new to Packers fans.
In Green Bay, it was no secret that Favre did not like Rodgers for the three years that they were on the team together.
Favre, however, seems to be doing a little bit of revisionist history, as he told Gelb, “No, I thought we had a great relationship, to be honest with you. I felt like we had a great relationship. We watched a lot of film together and you know we didn’t hang out. I was quite a bit older than him, I went home to Deanna [Favre’s wife] and the girls. We played golf together. Anytime that he, you know, he would ask ‘hey do you mind if I watch extra film with you?’ I had no problems with it.
“I’m a little taken aback by that but first of all I don’t read anything, I don’t watch anything, so the only time I hear something is if I’m doing a show like this or I’m somewhere where I’m in you know familiar territory with people that I played with that they know and so on and so forth. I have thought that we had a great relationship, to be honest with you.”
