The Green Bay Packers are 4-2 on the season with an offense and defense that ranks among the NFL leaders in several key categories. The team’s early success so far this year may prove to be vital as every other team in the NFC North has at least four wins as well. In fact, the teams with the top four highest point differentials in the entire NFL are the Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears, and Detroit Lions.
All the NFC North teams.
If the rest of the season plays out as the first six weeks have, the race for the division crown and wild card spots is going to be fierce. There will be little margin for error, as is the case every season.
Unfortunately, the Packers have yet to solve on glaring issue that has, and could again, cost them dearly in the NFL Playoffs.
Green Bay Packers Kicker Brayden Narveson Has Not Been Good
After a disastrous training camp battle between Anders Carlson and Greg Joseph this summer, the Packers made the decision to claim Brayden Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans. The hope, of course, was that the 2024 undrafted free agent would bring some stability and consistency to the kicker position, something that Carlson failed to do last year.
Through six games, Narveson has missed an NFL-high five field goals and has the worst field goal percentage (70.9%) in the league.
Ironically, it is Joseph, now kicking for the New York Giants, who has the second-worst field goal percentage in the NFL through six weeks.
And now, it appears, that Carlson, who led the NFL in missed kicks last year, may get a chance to prove to everyone that the Packers made a mistake in moving on from after just one year.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to Anders Carlson Signing with the San Francsico 49ers
Since being cut by the Packers, Carlson has not had any success in finding another job in the NFL. Despite working out for several teams, he has not been signed. That is, until today.
Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on X (formerly Twitter) that the former Packers kicker as signed with the San Francisco 49ers and has been assigned to their practice squad.
San Francisco #49ers are signing former #Packers K Anders Carlson to their practice squad, source said. Niners adding some insurance after Matthew Wright injured his shoulder last week.

Packers fans who saw Carlson’s struggles last season, including his missed kick against the 49ers in the NFL Playoffs that might have cost Green Bay the game, went crazy on social media over the news:
Carlson hitting the game-winner for the 49ers against the Packers in the playoffs would be my Joker origin story. https://t.co/XyPL5NcB1H

As a Wisconsin sports fan, have I been devastated too much that the first thing that crosses my mind is that Anders Carlson is kicking a game winning field goal at Lambeau in the NFC Title game to send the Packers home? https://t.co/ej0W7XXAlC

As one can see, the fear Packers fans have is that Carlson might have suddenly figured it out and will end up helping San Francisco beat Green Bay in the Playoffs later this year.
Of course, Carlson has not shown any signs that he has been able to figure it out yet. The only reason the 49ers are signing him is because he worked out for them last week and the kicker they chose over him, Matthew Wright, injured his shoulder and may not be available this week.
