For years, Aaron Jones was one of the most beloved players on the Green Bay Packers roster. Not only was he one of the best offensive players on the team, but his dedication to the community and his charity work off the field endeared him to fans. Indeed, it was impossible to hate Aaron Jones.
When the Packers made the decision to cut Jones earlier this year, fans were saddened but understood. Green Bay had recently signed Josh Jacobs in free agency and Jones was aging and coming off of an injury-riddled 2023 season.
So beloved was Jones by Packers fans that many did not feel any ill feelings when he signed with one of their most hated rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. Instead, fans wished him well and hoped for his success (except against Green Bay).
However, Jones’ most recent comments have some fans up in arms in defense of one of their most beloved traditions.
Former Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones Renamed the Lambeau Leap
One of the most recognizable traditions surrounding the Packers franchise is the Lambeau Leap touchdown celebration. Invented by Pro Football Hall of Famer LeRoy Butler, the celebration has become a staple of Packers home games, with players launching themselves into the arms of adoring fans whenever they score a touchdown.
Of course, Jones made many such Lambeau Leaps during the course of his career in Green Bay. In seven seasons with the Packers, he scored 45 rushing touchdowns while also catching 18 touchdown passes.
Now that he plays for the Vikings, Jones does not plan to give up his favorite touchdown celebration. In Minnesota’s Week One win over the New York Giants, he leapt into the arms of fans (albeit Giants fans) after scoring his first touchdown as a Viking.
Now, according to Dane Mizutani, a Vikings insider, Jones plans to keep doing the Lambeau Leap, but under a different name:
Aaron Jones said now when he scores, instead of calling it the Lambeau Leap, it’ll be called the Bank Vault. “The bank is open on Sundays.”

As one might have expected, fans were not too pleased with Jones’ renaming of such a hallowed Packers tradition.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to Aaron Jones Renaming the Lambeau Leap
As mentioned, Packers fans hold their traditions close to their hearts. Jones claiming the Lambeau Leap and renaming it did not sit well with them.
You can’t just like say the Lambeau Leap is yours and rebrand it. You just jump into the stands, no special name https://t.co/XYDBDZ5LBq

Jones and the Vikings play the Packers at Lambeau Field on September 29. It will be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets from fans.
