“Gutekunst Gonna Laugh at This;” Green Bay Packers Fans Believe Jaire Alexander Is as Good as Gone After Jordan Love Comments

Back when Aaron Rodgers played for the Green Bay Packers, it became somewhat of a joke among fans that any player that the star quarterback spoke glowingly of was soon traded or released by the team. One of the most popular examples of this among Packers fans was former wide receiver Jake Kumerow, nicknamed “Touchdown Jesus,” who was released by Green Bay just a couple of days after Rodgers lauded him in a press conference.

When Rodgers made his beef with the front office public following his MVP season in 2020, the Packers traded a sixth round pick for one of his all-time favorite teammates, Randall Cobb, in an effort to appease him. Cobb had previously been allowed to leave as a free agent after Green Bay declined to give him a third contract.

Now, of course, Jordan Love is the quarterback of the Packers, and he has not been nearly as “involved” in front office decisions as his predecessor was. Still, a recent comment he made during an interview had Packers fans harkening back to the Rodgers days.

One of the biggest stories surrounding the Packers this offseason has been the ongoing drama surrounding the team and their two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. After the season ended, Alexander (who played in just seven games due to injury) told reporters that he had nothing good to say about the organization and that he was not sure if he was going to be back next season.

Over the last several months, Green Bay’s front office has made it pretty clear that they intend to try and trade Alexander this offseason. If they are unable to find a suitable trade partner, they likely will release him.

But Love does not want that to happen. He would like to see the Packers bring Alexander back.

“He’s definitely a player we need back.”

“He’s definitely a player we want back,” Love said of Alexander.

When Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, there was a great deal of scrutiny surrounding Love, but one of his biggest and most outspoken supporters from within the locker room was Alexander.

It is easy to see why Love would want him back.

When fans saw that Love publicly said he wanted the Packers to retain Alexander, they all had similar thoughts on the subject:

brian gutekunst is gonna laugh at this and trade jaire alexander for a bag of lay’s now. then jordan love will really be a true green bay packers quarterback https://t.co/83Sx8aaw5Y

This is just going to make Gutekunst speed up the trade 💀 https://t.co/XV8EiJ2GU7

We gonna see how much motion Love got lol https://t.co/mbedd5gBVc

Gute buddy u better listen https://t.co/pKAht9eps5

As much as fans, and Love, may want Alexander to remain in Green Bay, he has also made it clear that he may want a fresh start elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see if any movement comes with the NFL Draft just a week away.
