Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams has been one of the most skilled players in the NFL for a while now. After spending his first eight seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Adams was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders ahead of the 2023 season. However, things potentially seem to be going down there as there have been rumors about a trade potentially happening before the season starts.
One of the possible situations could be a reunion with the Green Bay Packers. While appearing on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Davante Adams shut down the idea of returning to Green Bay for reasons outside of football.
“For me, the quality of life is another piece to it. Having been in Green Bay and seeing my daughters can’t go outside after Halloween because of how cold it is. I got a picture of my daughter in November, she’s sitting there with her hand on the window staring outside of the play structure, looking like the saddest little girl in the whole world.”
He continues to discuss how he puts being a dad over his career and says it would be tough to spend three days a week away from his children. It seems that running back Josh Jacobs’ pitch to get Adams to join him in Green Bay is nothing more than a pipe dream.
Will Davante Adams get traded before the 2024 NFL season begins?
It is always difficult to trade away a player that has the skills of Davante Adams. His contract is a little interesting though as this is the final year that he is not paid like the best receiver in the sport. Below is the base salary for the next three years of Adams’ contract.
- 2024: $16.89 million
- 2025: $35.64 million
- 2026: $35.64 million
However, there is a bit of an issue about what the Las Vegas Raiders could get as a return as there is a potential out for his contract after this season, which the team could make him an unrestricted free agent before the major money comes in.
The New York Jets are one of the teams that are interested in trading for Davante Adams this offseason and attempted to do so before last season’s trade deadline as well. The star receiver is going to be 32 years old during the season and missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2016, so there could be signs of regression beginning to show.
However, he is still an incredible talent so there is a chance that a deal is going to be made. Teams need to be able to fit Davante Adams’ contract under the cap, which could be tricky for the Jets, but that is also something that could happen if needed.
The Las Vegas Raiders are in the driver’s seat and though Adams has not publicly come out and said he wants to be traded, it feels like the signs are pointing in that way right now.
