Green Bay Packers Legend Clay Matthews Kicks Off 2025 NFL Draft with “Message” from Donald Trump

The Green Bay Packers, the smallest market team in the NFL, is hosting this year’s draft. Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, many wondered how Green Bay, with a population just over 105,000, would be able to accommodate the tens of thousands of visitors that the draft brings.

Despite the doubts, the city and the Packers organization went above and beyond to create a comfortable, welcoming, and unique experience for all the people traveling to the city, many for the first time.

And it would seem that they did a great job:

Part of Green Bay’s plan for hosting the draft was to welcome back several former Packers players to help emcee the festivities.

One of the former players that the Packers brought back was Clay Matthews, who is the franchise’s all-time leader in sacks and a Super Bowl XLV Champion. Still beloved by Packers fans, Matthews received a raucous welcome when he was introduced on stage.

While NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was speaking to the crowd right before the draft started, Matthews stole the microphone from him and said he had a message for all 32 NFL teams and fanbases from President Donald Trump:

“We’re going to go a little off script here a little bit,” Matthews began. “I just got off the phone with the President Donald Trump. He asked me to pass a message along to all 32 NFL franchises.

“So, let me tell you what it reads here, alright? It says, ‘My fellow Americans, the Bears still suck!'”

Green Bay, of course, has a long-standing rivalry with the Chicago Bears, a rivalry that Matthews knows all too well.

It was a brilliant, and hilarious, way to use the platform he had at the draft to remind everyone that Packers players, current and former, still hate Chicago.
