Running Back Giovanni Bernard announced his retirement from the NFL on April 28. Bernard shared the news on his Instagram account.
“Ten years ago, I came into this league grateful,” Bernard said on Instagram. “Grateful for what God has done for me to get to that moment and to celebrate all the obstacles that were overcome. And now fast forward 10 years, I leave humbled. Humbled by the experiences, relationships, and memories that have shaped me during this time. I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with exceptional men and women, including my brothers on the field, coaches who’ve taught me so much, and front office/staff who worked behind the scenes to make it all seamless.
Bernard played in 135 games during his career. Bernard carried the ball 937 times, rushed for 3,738 yards and scored 22 rushing touchdowns. Bernard recorded 2,989 receiving yards and scored 14 receiving touchdowns.
Bernard was a dual-threat running back. Bernard carried the ball and caught passes out of the backfield. Bernard’s small stature helped him elude defenders and make plays on the gridiron.
Bernard was drafted in 2013 by the Cincinnati Bengals. Bernard played college football at the University of North Carolina. Bernard also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
