‘The Giants Are Average at Best’: New York Urged to Rebuild Despite Having Russell Wilson

The New York Giants find themselves at a pivotal moment as they incorporate veteran quarterback Russell Wilson into their roster. Despite this high-profile addition, analysts argue that the team remains average at best, highlighting the need for a comprehensive rebuild rather than a quick fix.

Wilson’s signing is seen as an attempt to stabilize a franchise that has struggled for years, particularly since the departure of Eli Manning. However, experts caution that bringing in a seasoned quarterback alone will not address the deeper issues plaguing the team, including inconsistent performance and a lack of cohesion. New York finished the previous season with a dismal record, and the pressure is mounting for head coach Brian Daboll to turn things around.

The offseason has seen significant changes, including the draft selection of a promising quarterback prospect. While Wilson’s experience is valuable, the focus must shift to developing young talent within the organization. Analysts emphasize that without a solid foundation, any improvements may be short-lived.

Critics point to Wilson’s recent performances, which have not matched his earlier career highs. New York is banking on his leadership to uplift the entire team, but many believe this strategy is fraught with risk. The offensive line also requires attention, as it has struggled to protect quarterbacks effectively in recent years.

NFL Analysis Urges New York Giants to Rebuild Despite Having Veteran QB Russell Wilson

New York may do well by starting its rebuild, even though Russell is still with the team. This is detailed more in an analysis by Gary Davenport for Bleacher Report.

Therein lies the rub. Should the Giants try to win now with Russell Wilson under center, or roll out Jaxson Dart (the second of two first-round picks in 2025) and take the lumps that come with it?

The team has some talent. Wide receiver Malik Nabers was fantastic in his first year. With rookie Abdul Carter joining Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux, the G-Men have arguably the best trio of edge-rushers in the league.

But with Wilson under center, the Giants are—average at best. Maybe the third-best team in the NFC East. There won’t be any deep playoff run. Or likely any playoffs at all.

At some point, Daboll has to let Dart play…and hope Mara doesn’t lose what patience he has left.

With a tough schedule ahead, the team faces an uphill battle in the competitive NFC East. Many experts predict they could finish at the bottom of their division again, which would prompt further discussions about their long-term strategy.

Ultimately, while Wilson’s presence may provide a temporary boost, the Giants need to reassess their overall direction. A commitment to rebuilding could position them for sustainable success, allowing them to rise from their current mediocrity.
