The New York Giants think they might have their next franchise wide receiver in Malik Nabers. He has impressed thoroughly so far during training camp and pre-season. The Giants have made the playoffs twice since the 2016 season, never getting past the divisional round.
Nabers hopes to be part of the turn around, however, there are some concerning reports circulating currently.
New York Giants Wide Receiver Malik Nabers At The Center Of Gambling Report
A $10,000 bet was “taken back” by former LSU teammates Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers after they were educated on the NFL’s gambling policy in “multiple education sessions,” according to the NFL.
The league addressed the case publicly for the first time since Nabers confirmed the bet was canceled in May, according to Mark Maske of the Washington Post:
“They rescinded that bet,” NFL executive vice president of communications, public affairs and policy Jeff Miller said in a video news conference, per Maske.
“The league addressed the matter directly with the NFL Players Association, with the two teams and with the two players to ensure that they understood the policy. They received multiple education training sessions since that time. And…as a result of all the work that went into it, I think we’re comfortable with the resolution.”
ESPN’s John Keim reported details on the initial bet back in May.
“Daniels and Nabers have a bet on who will win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, which Nabers first mentioned on “The Pivot” podcast with Ryan Clark. Daniels confirmed the wager during an interview on the “All Facts No Brakes” podcast with Keyshawn Johnson on Wednesday.”
As Maske noted, the NFL is now mandating in-person training for all players on the gambling policy, so Daniels and Nabers certainly aren’t the only ones undergoing training sessions. Per Maske, representatives from the league visited all 32 teams at offseason minicamps and training camps to conduct the sessions.
In addition, coaches, team and NFL staffers, referees and game officials go through the training.
Even though the bet will not be carried out, Daniels and Nabers still have a lot of potential and are capable of competing for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.
Heisman Trophy winner Daniels could provide Washington with a much-needed boost at football’s most important position. Nabers looks like WR1 in New York after a strong offseason and outstanding preseason performance against Houston Texans.
On September 8, Daniels will take on the Buccaneers as the Commanders travel to Tampa Bay to play the Buccaneers, whereas the Giants will host the Vikings at home.
