Joenel Aguero, the No. 1 player in the state of Massachusetts, announced his commitment to the reigning national champions. The four-star safety chose Georgia over Ohio State, Florida, and Miami. He made his pledge to the Bulldogs on a live broadcast on CBS Sports.
The prospect got his first look at Athens during his unofficial visit in October 2021. One month later, Aguero received an offer from Kirby Smart’s program. He returned to Georgia’s campus this past June for an official trip. Now, he will be a Georgia Bulldog.
Safeties coach Will Muschamp gets the credit for recruiting Aguero. Muschamp was hired in Februrary 2021 as a defensive analyst but earned a promotion after Dan Lanning became head coach at Oregon. He won his second national title of his coaching career last year.
“I always wanted to play in the SEC. I feel like it was [a goal], definitely. The SEC is big-time football. That’s where you’re really going to play some dawgs. It’s going to help me get acclimated when I get into the NFL. It’s going to be good for me.”
