The Georgia football program would not make the College Football Playoff if the season ended today. Sitting in the 12th spot in the latest rendition of the College Football Playoff rankings, the Georgia Bulldogs would be the first team out, with the Boise State Broncos taking their place in the 12-team field (the best Group of Five team earns the 12th and final spot). This weekend, Georgia will host the seventh-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. With a loss, the Bulldogs would fall to 8-3, likely ending their run at a third CFP berth in four seasons.
Entering this Saturday, Georgia has already suffered two losses against elite SEC teams on the road. Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart believes that despite his team’s two losses, the Bulldogs deserve to remain in the conversation for the CFP even if they suffer a loss against Tennessee this weekend. Smart points at the toughness of his team’s schedule, especially with the road atmospheres they have endured this season. However, many college football fans did not side with Smart, simply telling him to win more.
College Football Fans Take Aim at Georgia Football HC Kirby Smart
According to Georgia football HC Kirby Smart through On3 and the @PatMcAfeeShow:
Kirby Smart questions how the College Football Playoff committee values the strength of the schedule in rankings:
“I don’t know how much the committee values it… they’re looking at the game on the TV. They’re not at the stadium, hearing the crowd noise, knowing the atmosphere that you’re playing in.
It’s very different when you play on the road in our league; I think compared to some other leagues, it’s tougher.”
Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart questions the College Football Playoff committee regarding their value of the strength of schedule metric. Smart believes the SEC, the home of the Georgia Bulldogs, plays in environments and atmospheres not typically found in the other Power Four conferences. This season, Georgia has suffered two road losses. Earlier this season, Georgia lost on the road at Bryant-Denny Stadium against the Alabama Crimson Tide in front of a 100,077-person attendance. Last weekend, the Bulldogs lost 28-10 on the road against the Ole Miss Rebels. Georgia played both ranked SEC tilts in the primetime evening slot.
Per the Sagarin strength of schedule rankings, Georgia enters this weekend having played the most formidable strength of schedule this season. That will not change after a home tilt against the top-ranked Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday. The only other team in the top ten regarding Sagarin’s strength of schedule rankings that is also in the top 12 of the CFP rankings is the Alabama Crismon Tide. Yet, college football fans believe that a potentially three-loss Georgia team does not belong in the CFP, regardless of the strength of the schedule:
Georgia played nobody outside of Alabama for like 4 straight years & NOW Kirby Smart wants to complain about the schedule rankings

Here’s an idea… don’t lose games

So pathetic. Georgia has more talent than their entire schedule. Stop trying to make excuses for a 3 loss Georgia getting in. Lose tomorrow, and it's beddy bye for the Dawgs 😴

Ole Miss is a 64,000 seat stadium, I can promise you every other conference can compare to that

Arguably the most unlikeable coach in football.

Kirby Smart has entered the 3rd stage of grief and is failing.
Georgia plays four of the 5 worst SEC teams. LSU, Alabama, and South Carolina all play harder schedules with similar success.
Worry about Tennessee and Georgia Tech, then come back to plead your case. Season is not…

Not gonna lie. But the whining coming out of the SEC. “Oh my”

Oh I see, what he’s trying to do here!

Hey Kirby, don’t struggle against Kentucky, Miss St, & Florida. Georgia hasn’t played a complete game since Tenn Tech

Dude has had the luxury of playing the cakewalk of the SEC East for years & now is going to complain about strength of schedule? https://t.co/gXAUnbJUwm

I’m probably as happy as any UGA fan that we got Kirby at the helm. With that said … You gotta win dawg. Don’t expect rewards from losing regardless. https://t.co/l7eZDgRNkC
