Georgia Bulldogs fans are built different.
That pretty much goes for all SEC fans — in a conference where most of the stadiums are bigger than NFL venues — fans go above and beyond to support their favorite teams.
On Saturday, one of the biggest SEC games of the year will go down in Tuscaloosa, as No. 4 Alabama hosts No. 2 Georgia in Tuscaloosa.
The Georgia Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide have combined to win the nation’s top conference in nine of the past 10 seasons. They split a pair of national championship games. They have faced off in the SEC title game in two of the past three seasons.
But this matchup will be much different than the epic clashes from the past.
On Saturday, the two SEC foes will face off for the first time in 21 years without Nick Saban on the sideline leading the Alabama football program. It is the first time the Crimson Tide will be an underdog in the regular season since 2015, when Saban — with the assistance of longtime defensive coordinator Kirby Smart — led Alabama to a blowout win over Georgia.
Still, Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have a tough test ahead.
Kalen DeBoer has picked up right where Saban left off and has Alabama playing as good as any team in the country.
Alabama started with an easy win against Western Kentucky, struggled at times against South Florida before putting the Bulls away with a fourth-quarter scoring barrage, and then rolled over Wisconsin in a rare nonconference game in Big Ten country
“This is a new team, this is a new season, and that’s why I always make sure we’re emphasizing that this is the 2024 Alabama Crimson Tide football team,” DeBoer said. “But there’s certainly learning moments that you have when you’ve been through the experiences.”
Georgia Bulldogs Fan Uses Raft To Paddle Through Hurricane Floods To Make It To Alabama Game
The Bulldogs are playing to remain one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, while Alabama will jump to the top of the rankings if the Tide can pull off the home upset.
Despite Hurricane Helene creating havoc on the Southeast and even on the college football slate for Week 5, and one die-hard UGA fan wasn’t going to miss the Bulldogs biggest game of the year in Tuscaloosa.
The Georgia Bulldogs fan used a raft to pick up his friend — despite the streets being filled with water in dangerous conditions — so they could make it to Tuscaloosa in time for Saturday’s kickoff.
Alison Mastrangelo of WSB-TV in Atlanta shared the amazing story on X. According to Mastrangelo, a die-hard Georgia fan and awesome friend blew up a raft, waded across the water and was able to get to the house of his trapped companion and picked him up despite awful conditions so they could make the game.
Now, the duo is seemingly headed to the gigantic SEC clash in Tuscaloosa. Check out the video of it all below.
