Despite a poor offensive performance, the Gators picked up their second straight win, this time in their homecoming game against Missouri. The defense played a great game that led to the victory. Two interceptions of Missouri quarterback Brady Cook including one being a pick-six, on top of four sacks by four different players helped the Gators to a 24-17 win over the Tigers. This is the second straight week that Florida’s defense had given up under 20 points after giving up at least 25 in each of their first four games.
Gators Offensive Stars
While the passing game struggled greatly with quarterback Anthony Richardson completing only eight of fourteen pass attempts for 66 yards, the run game kept the offense in the game, with Montrell Johnson Jr. rushing eight times for 86 yards and a touchdown, as well as Trevor Etienne who rushed 10 times for 83 yards. The duo looked good all season and in this game, they were able to do enough secure a victory with the help of stifling defense.
Gators Defensive Stars
The defense looked great in this game with two interceptions and four sacks there are a lot of players who played great a great game, but the one who made the most important play that made the biggest impact was Jaydon Hill. Hill’s 49-yard interception return for a touchdown gave the Gators a ton of momentum and helped to ensure the Gators win over the Tigers. As well as sacks by Gervon Dexter Sr., Brenton Cox Jr., Chris McClellan, and Princely Umanmielen helped to shut down the Tigers offense throughout the game.
