Two New York Jets offensive stars sent quarterback Zach Wilson a serious message after his three-interception performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. Wilson played so poorly Sunday that Jets fans were asking for Tim Boyle to start in Week 3 against the New England Patriots.
Wilson completed under 50 percent of his passes against the Cowboys in the team’s 30-10 loss. Head coach Robert Saleh said last Week Wilson earned the starting job and did not plan to bring in another starter for Wilson. (The Jets lost Aaron Rodgers for the season to an Achilles injury from Week 1.)
Two New York Jets players send support to Zach Wilson
Jets players seemed frustrated after the loss Sunday. However, running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson sent Wilson a strong message of support after the defeat. According to Dov Kleiman, Hall and Wilson said the entire offense was responsible for the poor showing in Dallas:
Breece Hall: “I think he played a solid game, I just think we could’ve done more to help him out protection wise… I think we could’ve helped him out a lot more”
Garrett Wilson: “From the outside looking in, it’s easy to play the blame the quarterback game.” “That’s the world we live in, where you look at the top man, the head man, the quarterback, the one who makes the money and point the finger, but all of us internally know that we all got to take the right steps to get better.
Zach went out there & gave it his all today. We’ve got to make it easier for him, we’ve got to paint better pictures for him, we’ve got to hold up in protection better for him, we’ve got to get open more, just all that.”
The Cowboys have an elite defense. It’s understandable how the Jets could have a sloppy game in Week 2, especially given they had an emotional letdown after Rodgers’ injury.
But Wilson will need to turn things around quickly. The Jets have a huge matchup against the Patriots in Week 3. Wilson will have no excuse not to execute the offense against a Patriots 0-2 Patriots team that gave up 24 to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football in Week 2.
