The LSU Tigers had a disappointing 2024 season in head coach Brian Kelly’s third year with the program. LSU finished their regular season with an 8-4 overall record and a 5-3 record in the SEC, good enough to finish seventh in the conference.
Kelly bragged about LSU’s future prospects after LSU’s 37-17 regular-season finale blowout win over Oklahoma, telling reporters they’d be taking receipts when they made it to a future national title. Kelly didn’t give specifics as to when that would be. He also told reporters LSU would have good news about players returning in 2025.
The Tigers have lost several key players to the transfer portal and several key recruits, which Kelly, who is on a 10-year deal worth $95, wanted to blame on the evil NIL.
LSU Tigers QB Garrett Nussmeier made a decision
One of the biggest decisions LSU was waiting on had to do with quarterback, Gerrett Nussmeir’s plan on where he wanted to play after a tragic season under Kelly. Per On3 Sports, the junior quarterback from Lake Charles, Louisiana, announced his intention to return to Baton Rouge for 2025.

Fans react to Nussmeier’s decision
Fans on social media had strong reactions to the news.
“Give it up man,” wrote a fan.
“LSU needed this after losing Underwood I expect Nussmeier to look better next year,” suggested one fan.
“defenders are very happy,” another posted.
“Another 8-4 season loading. When will we learn we need a guy who can run as well to seriously compete,” believes one fan.
“LSU needs to bring someone in. 13 is a good solid player but LSU gotta have a higher vision,” argued another.
Nussmeier completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 3,739 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2024.
LSU is set to play their next game against Baylor in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium in Houston on Dec. 31 at 3:30 p.m. E.T.
